Memorial Groves
We encourage people to think a little more broadly than the current options that are traditional for placement of ashes.
It is great to put them somewhere meaningful or accessible rather than just in the hole in the wall or the rose garden at the cemetery.
It is possible to place ashes almost anywhere and many people do just that. They can be planted in the garden, park or reserve with a tree on top which will grow through the ashes and be nourished by them. They can be sprinkled in a river or the ocean or scattered to the wind. Some people need or want to hold on to them for a while, there is no rush.
Already well established in the other countries memorial groves are locations where people place the ashes of loved ones either singularly or collectively as a family.
They can be anonymous or marked by urns, plaques and sculpture placement in landscaped gardens and forested groves.
We encourage people to think about reclaiming damaged or unusable land and regenerate it into memorial parks. This can provide a sacred site for ashes while also enhancing our natural environment.
They can also be a part of a Natural Burial Ground. Sites for ashes are much easier to establish as there is no health risk as with the body.
